A:Acts 12:3-19 says that Herod the king imprisoned Peter, but an angel came by night and touched Peter with his hand and led him from the prison. Clearly, God did not want Peter to die, as James had just done (Acts 12:1-2). However, it is not as simple as that. An important, well disguised theme of Acts of the Apostlesis the primacy of St Peter over St Paul during the period of their respective ministries. Acts contains many parallels between Peter and Paul, and these consistently portray Peter as a more worthy apostle than Paul. Paul was also released from prison but only by a timely earthquake that arguably need not have been of divine origin, while there was no doubt that Peter was helped by angels.
