Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (author of the Sherlock Holmes stories) was very friendly with Houdini. In fact they made a pact that the Survivor would try to contact the other after one of them died. They agreed upon a cryptic message that they shared with no one else.

Houdini died first and Conan Doyle spent much time visiting mediums and spiritualists who claimed to be able to make contact with the spirits of dead people. Many said they were in contact with the spirit of Houdini but when asked what message Houdini had for Sir Arthur not one of these people was able to convey the cryptic message and Conan Doyle was left with the opinion that spiritualism was just fakery. Up to this point, he had strongly believed in spiritualism and wouldn't believe Houdini when he said it was just trickery.
