The first system of underground transport or 'Metro' was the London Underground, which was open to the public in 1863. Even when we can tell a name of a sole inventor of this system, one of the main promoter of the idea was businessman Charles Pearson.

Why is the metro station at Montparnasse called Montparnasse-Bienvenue? Because it's on a street named after Fulgence Bienvenue, the engineer responsible for the metro. He didn't invent it - the idea was by no means new - but he designed it, which I suppose is what you mean.
