The Australian Government decided on using the name "Dollar" in the early 1960's.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) "invented" the Dollar notes with various designers coming up with the artwork within guidelines set by the RBA.

The Royal Australian Mint (RAM) "invented" the Dollar coin and Stuart Devlin being the designer who designed the coin.
