∙ 9y agoThere were several organizations working towards the development of networks and the necessary hardware in the late 1960's and early 1970's. The first commercially implemented network hardware was for the ARCNET developed by Datapoint Corporation in 1976.

Specifically, The Department of Defense used the first computer network. It was then later improved and used for commercial use, until we reached what is known as the internet today.
