The long ship was invented by Andrew Boat in 820BC the year Opithicus the Long was alive. Andrew Boat was a pioneering mathematician in the Greek Hippilars which what they called the buildings where 10-20 mathematicians worked together using expensive paper, the expensive paper was the reason they worked 10-20 at a time in on building.
One day that the specific date is unknown Andrew Boat discovered the mathematical proportions required for a piece of wood to float. He took this to Opithicus the Long and it was said that he showered him in gold. This information led to the first Long boat being built, which was named Long Boat because of Opithicus the Long and Andrew Boat the mathematician who discovered these proportions.
The reason the Boat was paid for by Opithicus the Long was because he saw the potential for an entirely new way to gather resources. By fishing, with that Greece became the most wealthy nation in the world and this is what lead to their domination of large proportions of it for hundreds of years.
