I can be a little more specific than that. Agamemnon is best known for being the King of Mycenae (and much of Achaea) during the time of the Trojan War. He was from the doomed house of Atreus (which was founded by Tantalus, son of Zeus), and his life was dominated by rape, murder, cannibalism and general debauchery.
Agamemnon's father killed and fed his brother Thyestes' children to him because he was caught with Atreus' wife. Thyestes fathered a son by how own daughter and that son, Aegisthus vowed revenge. He killed Atreus and placed his father on the throne. Agamemnon and his younger brother, Menelaus fled to Sparta and lived there until the death of Thyestes, when Agamemnon went back to claim the throne.
Since he was Menelaus' older brother, when the time came for the suitors of Helen to repay their promise to protect her, he led the armies his brother called. He wasn't responsible for the Greek victory, though, that largely lay with Achilles and Odysseus.
Upon returning to Mycenae, Agamemnon discovered that his wife, Clytemnestra had taken Aegisthus as a lover and the pair murdered him.
