Maahes (also spelled Mihos, Miysis, Mios, Maihes, and Mahes) was an ancient Egyptian lion-headed God of War,[1] whose name means "he who is true beside her". He was seen as a lion prince, the son of the goddess Bast in Lower Egypt and of Sekhmet in Upper Egypt and shared their natures. His father varied according to the current chief male deity of the time and region. He was a deity associated with war and weather, and was considered the protector of matrilineality and of the high priests of Ammon, as well as that of knives, lotuses, and devouring captives. His cult was centred in Taremu and Per-Bast.

Who was the son of bastet?

The goddess Bast or Bastet (hieroglyphs bAstt) was sometimes the mother of Nefertem, sometimes the mother of Ma'hes. Ma'hes was also considered to be the son of Sekhmet, another cat-headed goddess. These apparent contradictions are typical of a religion that began in prehistory as more than 40 different regional religions, each independent of all the others; when Egypt was unified these many hundreds of gods and goddesses were simply combined into the national religion. Since the same goddess (for example Bast) had been worshipped and understood differently in different areas, it is no surprise that contradictions can be found. The ancient Egyptians saw no contradictions at all in these different versions, but considered all of them to be true at the same time - simply part of the mysterious existence of the gods.
