Charles "Trout" Walker was the man who was in love with Kate Barlow. Before the incident with Sam, she was a teacher for both children and adults. Charles used to go to her, because he was in love with her. When she kissed Onion Sam he got jealous and told everyone in town how wrong it was for a black man to kiss a white woman. Because of his jealousy he killed Sam while he was trying to escape by boat. Kate gets heartbroken and starts to kill people and rob them. 13 or 14 years later Charles marries Linda Miller. They find Kate in the desert and he tells her that he will kill her if she dosen´t tell him eher the lout is (Kate buried a coffin with gold, that she robbed). Charles dosen't kill her. Kate take a lizard and make it bite her so she will die. She died laughing, that Charles will never find the loat. Later Charles pays hundred of dollars totry to find the loat that is buried in the lake... Now the boys in the camp is trying to find the loat themself to later give to The Warden (Lou Walker)
