Erin PIZZEY,

was born February 19, 1939, in China. She left with her family to live in the Middle East until 1946 when she moved to England. In 1971, Erin Pizzey opened her first refuge centre dealing with victims of domestic violence. She is the author of "Scream Quietly or the Neighbors will hear", which was about domestic violence, published in 1974. In 1949, she went to the United States and embarked on a Salvation Army sponsored tour of 21 cities to help set up shelters for victims of domestic violence. Erin Pizzey moved to the United States in 1882, to open a shelter and lecture on the subject of Family Violence. During this time she also wrote and published novels.

She continued to work with domestic violence victims when she moved to Italy. In 1997 Erin returned to England and continued her career as a journalist and novelist, and more importantly to work for victims of domestic violence. Erin has spoken to numerous men's domestic violence victim groups. More recently, in March 2007, Erin opened first Arab refuge for victims of domestic violence in Bahrain.

She has also won many awards for her work, including:

· International Order of Volunteers for Peace, Diploma of Honor, 1981.

· Nancy Astor Award for Journalism, 1983.

· World Congress of Victimology- Distinguished Leadership Award, 1987.

· St. Valentino Palm d'Oro International Award for Literature, 1994.
