Jacques Cartier was a French explorer who was sent by King Francois I. When he went on his first voyage, he traveled to the Gulf of hte St. Lawrence River. At first, he'd thought he wouldn't make it, then he saw a group of Aboriginal people called the Mi'kmaq( Migmac). He traded metal goods to them, then when the Mi'kmaq saw these metal goods, they began to take their clothes off for the metal goods. Then Cartier continued down on the St. Lawrence River, then he found another group of Aboriginal people called the Haudenosaunee( Ha-the-naw-sun-nee). He put a cross onto the ground saying "Long Live the King of France!" Donnacona, the chief of the Haudenosaunee, made a cross with his fingers representing the cross then spreaded out his arms as he was representing the land around him then he turned his head like he was saying no. When Cartier left, he took Donnacona's 2 sons,Domagaya and Taignoagny. He also heard that this land was called 'kanata', so he put Canada across his map which later to be a country.
