Chairman Mao; former head of Red China.
Mao Tse Dong, also known as Mao Zedong, was a Chinese communist leader who played a pivotal role in the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. He served as the Chairman of the Communist Party of China from 1949 until his death in 1976. Mao is known for his radical policies, such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, which had significant impacts on China's society and economy.
The Chinese are among those cultures that give the family name first and the personal name after that, so Mao Tse Dong's family name is Mao and his personal name is Tse Dong.
Mao Zhe Dong or Mao tse tung(Communists,Maosist)
In the Mao Tse Dong Mausoleum in Beijing, China.
Mao rhymes with cow Tse is pronounced like a word ending ~tzer as in 'spritzer' Tung has no easy English equivalent. It is not pronounced to rhyme with 'tongue' as the 'u' is closer to the 'oo' in 'moon'.
The leader of the communist takeover of China was Chairman Mao. His full name was at one time generally spelled Mao Tse Tung, as an English transliteration of the original Chinese, but in recent years the alternative spelling Mao Tse Dong has been more favored. I personally just call him Chairman Mao to avoid the issue of how his last name is really spelled.
