Jacques Marquette was born and grew up in Laon, France. He became a Jesuit priest, and, at his own request, was sent to New France in 1666 where he studied Native American languages under a missionary.
Only Pope Francis was a Jesuit who became pope.

There has never been any French colonies in the US. There were large areas of North America which were French colonies which became a part of the US.

When he returned to Korea, he began disseminating books given to him by the Jesuit and started the Catholic faith in Korea.
