Who is a taluqdar?

The Taluqdari were a rich an influential group of Indians from the area of Oudh. They had land rights over peasants and were considered allies by the British Empire following the 1857 Indian Rebellion and the subsequential reforms that led their positions being ossified. They rose up the civil servie in India.
