Akhenaten was also known as Amenhotep IV He was an Egyptian pharaoh from about 1353 BCE to about 1336 BCE (the dates are abit fuzzy). The two high points of his reign are that he changed the religion of Egypt to the worship of one god - Aten (the Sun God). The conversion lasted until his death, when the Egyptians returned to their polytheistic ways. They then disparaged him and his memory - going so far as to remove his name from monuments.

Secondly, his wife was Nefertiti. Her painted bust is perhaps the best known "face" from the ancient world. It is on display in the Altes Mueum in Berlin.

What are some Egyptian queens?

There have been a huge number--maybe even in the hundreds--of Egyptian kings--or Pharoahs--but what about the queens? A few lovely Egyptian ladies were Neferititi--the wife of the crazed king Akhnaten, whose obsession with the sun god Aten forced his people to remove his and his wife's names and portraits from every temple or building wall in the country--Kiya, another wife of Akhnaten, Hatshepsut (who posed as a Paroah, and even wore the artificial beard!) as well as Neferatari and Ankhsenamun, formerly the Armarna princess known as Ankhsenpaaten before she married her half-brother Tutankhamun and changed her name, as was common at that time.

What sun god did the egytians believe in?

The Sun god Aten. Remember however that this religion was an invention of one Pharao, Akhnaten, and it disappeared again the moment he died. The people around him no doubt pretended to share the Pharaoh's beliefs, but the Egyptian people at large very probably stuck to their old and familiar gods.

What was the religion of King Tutankhamun?

King Tut had been raised by his parents in the Sun-oriented religion that his father Akhnaten had instituted instead of Egypt's traditional religious beliefs. After his fathers death, Tutankhamun quickly reverted to the ancient traditional beliefs, earning the gratitude of Egypt's powerful and rich priest class. Egypt's religion had no name, like today's "Catholic" of "Methodist" brands. So his religion can only be described as 'traditional Egyptian".

What type of music does Philip Glass write?

The style most associate with Philip Glass is minimalism. He is considered to be one of the big names in the school of minimalism, alongside Terry Riley, Steve Reich and others. He has not, however, confined himself to the style, and has worked in Indian music alongside Ravi Shankar and has worked in the film music industry. To get an idea of his style, I recommend listening to Glassworks, Akhnaten or Koyaanisquatsi. Any of his symphonic or concerto works are also excellent.

What role did religion play in the civilizations of mesopotamia and Egypt?

It is a very simple answer, in the early civilization religion was almost everything. The Kings were selcetd by the church, and Kings had the reputation especially in egypt that they have been chosen by God. Mostly everything that was recorded or written down were all done by churches, monks beacsue they had the proper education to know how to read and write, so there was also the religious bias in most concepts. Science existed as long as it proved the existence of God, and the closer you were associated with the church the higher place you held in the socail class. There was the church, the state, the landlords, soldiers, peasents, women and slaves. Governments always played around the church becasue the church had the power to domonate people's beliefs and fears. A king couldn't have thrown over a church but a church could have thrown over a king. The church or religion was like a pupet master that yanked the king and the public how they wished, and until the enlightenment era when people really started to question the existence of God through science and were able to prove things through science the church was the the government and the government was the church.
