The Soil Conservation Service was established in the 1930s to help farmers correct the problems of soil erosion. Scientists, government officials, and farmers worked together. It is now called the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Low tax rates on gasoline generally encourage more consumption of gasoline. Lax enforcement of environmental protection laws frequently results in more environmental deterioration.

There are also federal agencies involved in conservation, such as the Environmental Protection Agency or the Parks Service, and their workers are federal government employees on that payroll.
The West Indian Wanatees conservation status as of July 2013 is endangered. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has a plan in place to hopefully get this species out of the endangered status.
