That really depends on the county and the state and what laws they have passed.
In most counties they typically have a police force funded by the county government.
Some counties have private police forces which are paid by a separate charge directly to the people living in the county.
In counties that do not provide their own police force, the state may watch over the county with an appointed sheriff
If a county is small enough to not need a sheriff or a local police force it may be patrolled by state police instead with only minimal supervision.
There simply is not one set answer to this question as every county and state has the right to decide for itself the type of law enforcement provided, or not provided to a given area.
The Sheriff in most cases.
There are police officers at every level of government. Federal, state, county, city and agencies all can have sworn police officers.
The plural form is... 'officers in charge'.
There are police officers in almost every city and county of the world.
The Sheriff of Nansemond County was in charge of policing Suffolk, as well as Nansemond County, until 1858. In 1858, Suffolk was granted a charter and the first town sergeant was elected. After 1910, the town sergeant would be called Chief of Police. The sheriff would still be in charge of Nansemond County law enforcement until October 1970, when the Nansemond County Police Department was founded. The City of Suffolk Police Department and the Nansemond County Police Department merged in January 1974. The sheriff and the town sergeant were both elected officers.
Depends on the regulations where you are. Many Special Police Officers DO have the same authority as city or county police officers, but for specialized areas. Some of them DO carry firearms.
Officers of the New Mexico State Parks, state police, and county sheriffs have the authority to stop and inspect vessels for safety violations.

I would have to say Sodus Point Police Dept in Wayne County NY. They have 3 officers.
Yes they are police officers.
The person generally in charge of a police squad is a police sergeant or lieutenant. They are responsible for overseeing the daily operations, providing guidance and supervision to the officers under their command, and ensuring that laws and regulations are enforced effectively. Additionally, they often handle administrative tasks, maintain discipline, and act as a liaison between the squad and higher-ranking officers.
Of course they can. That is what promoting contraband is. If you have drugs stuffed in your anal cavity or anywhere else when you are in a detention facility you will be charged with promoting contraband. You can be charged by correction officers depending on where you live. . . Some jurisdictions may call in police officers to charge you!
It depends on where you are and exactly what you mean. In the U.S. within any given department there are patrol officers, traffic officers, adminstrative officers, Tac team or SWAT officers, supervisors, detectives, etc. Then there are city officers, county officers, state troopers, DEA, FBI, CIA, post office police, school police (some schools use fully commissioned police officers), special ops (tact team, SWAT team, etc).
