No one invented electricity. It is a naturally occurring phenomenon.

Benjamin Franklin showed that lightning is electricity. Others developed batteries and applied them to such applications as the telegraph and the telephone. Thomas Edison developed generators and distribution systems to power (and sell) his inventions that required electricity.


No one actually invented electricity. And while Benjamin Franklin is very often credited with discoving electrical current, it was actually Otto von Guericke who first invented a machine that produced electrical currents.
