Imam Feisal Abdul-Rauf and Sharif El-Gamal are serving as the project managers of the proposed Islamic center, called Park51, until a non-profit organization is established. Abdul Rauf was born in Egypt and moved with his father to the US when he was a teenager. A Sufi Muslim, he is a community and prayer leader who has been the imam of the Masjid al-Farah mosque in lower Manhattan.
El-Gamal was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He leads a real estate investment firm, SOHO Properties, that owns the lower Manhattan building where the $100 million center, Park51, would open. Abdul Rauf and El-Gamal have said that they would be seeking funding for the structure from the Muslim community. So far, they are far from having accrued the estimated $100 million building cost.
The proposed site is made up of two buildings. One, a former Burlington Coat Factory building on Park Place, was purchased by developers in 2009. The other attached building is still owned by the New York Utility, Con Edison. That building is presently being rented by the mosque promoters. You can see the location at the links provided below and a discussion about the sale and proposed use.

Obama is not building a mosque anywhere. In fact, the so-called mosque is not a mosque at all, but an Islamic cultural center. The center is being built by a Muslim imam named Feisal Abdul Rauf, and his congregation and some real estate developers. Obama has nothing to do with any of it. They are building the mosque two blocks from Ground Zero because that is just where they happened to find space for it.

Reportedly, Park 51, the name for the proposed mosque and cultural center, will cover 150,000 square feet and stand approximately 13 to 15 stories high. The president hasn't commented on whether he supports the location of the mosque, just the right for people to worship there.
