An LCSW is more qualified than an LCPC. Both are sanctioned by state license boards. However, LCSW's can diagnose mental health condition, but LPC's cannot.
An LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. LPC's are Licensed Professional Counselors. (Sometimes LCPC Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, depending on the state.) Both require 60 hour master's degrees, 2 year supervised residencies, and passing a national test. LCSW's have master's degrees in social work, while LPC's can have master's degrees in Counseling, rehab counseling, school counseling, sometimes counseling psychology, or other related degrees as long as they have 60 hours and the correct course work.
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor/LCPC: These therapists have a Master's Degree in Psychology and have passed a licensing exam which allows them to use the initials LCPC after their names.
Legally, yes in many places. Personally, NO. I do not believe that LCSW is qualified enought in testing nor psychopathology to make any diagnosis. I would find a qualified board certified child clinical psychologist or a qualified child counselor.
LCSW means licensed clinical social worker.
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
licensed clinical professional counselor
A BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) degree typically requires four years of undergraduate study and qualifies individuals for entry-level social work positions. An LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) is a more advanced credential that requires a master's degree in social work, 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience, and passing a licensure exam. LCSWs are able to provide therapy, diagnose mental health conditions, and work independently in clinical settings.

An LCPC, otherwise known as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, cannot prescribe medication. Only a qualified physician-- specifically, someone with an MD or DO-- can prescribe medication for the sort of issues often addressed by LCPC's. Other doctors can prescribe medications relevant to their specialty. The answer gets more complicated when it comes to who can prescribe any medication. But as far as professional counselors are concerned, prescriptions must come from someone else.
I'm fairly certain the "C" means Conditional. "In Maine, you must first obtain a conditional license to begin earning the 3,000 hours of clinical counseling experience" required to practice independently as an LCPC.
