It just depends on the nature of the employment.

If the worker is a tradesman who offered to do a repair job on your home, then they are self employed and are responsible for providing their own insurance for the hazards they and their workers may face while on the job. Never hire a contractor who can't provide you proof that he is properly insured for the work to be performed.

If the worker is a w-2 wage earner then you are responsible for providing Workman's compensation or some equivalent liability coverage for mishaps or accidental injury while on the job.

What did the will say? Is there a will? The executor is responsible for maintaining and disposing of the estate. The executor can, if it makes sense, rent the home to someone. Once the estate is settled, whomever gets the property has the ability to do what they wish.

You may be responsible. If you serve alcohol to your guests (which you would if you were hosting a party) you can be arrested especially if there is a fatality. I've read about it happening.
