According to Frank C. Mendel, professor of pathology and anatomical sciences at the University of Buffalo, "...lions and tigers are anatomically virtually the same..."1

Meaning they are likely equally strong at equal weights. However, the largest tigers exceed the largest lions in weight so they would be stronger overall.

Weights of each animal can be calculated based off chest girths which are strongly correlated to weight. Both animals are comparable in this area. The Lion tends to have slightly longer and leaner limbs, likely an adaptation to open plains (savannah) vs jungle.

This is a hard question. The lions once encountered each other in India. The lions lived in India was no African lions it was Asiatic lions, which today only survives in Gir National park and lion Sanctuary, Gujarat in North-west India. These lions were smaller than their cousins. Some hunters in India says that when tigers and lions encountered, the tiger would make the first blow followed by lion. Some says the lions always retreat. But in some chances tigers are chased by lions As tigers are heavier they are slow. Some others say that tigers always had won. The British say that the lion's royalty can be challenged by a tiger. One fight which is said to have occurred in Gir forest shows that a male tiger being defeated by lion. But this is a fake video, because of this video everyone say that tigers are losers. The lion which fought in this fight was no Asiatic sub-species. It did not had belly fold and also had thick mane. This accepted by lion professionals itself. Another reason is tigers never lived in Gir. The tiger was also was acting as dead because it was still looking to ground. So we cannot predict who will win. But Scientists say tigers have 95% of winning chance.
