The Kurds are not united into one government. In Iraqi Kurdistan, there are two main families which have held power: the Barzanis and the Talabanis. Currently, the Kurdish Regional Government is led by Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and President Massoud Barzani. In Syria, the Kurds are organized under the current Rojava Government which is headed by Kurdish Co-President Hediya Yousef and Arab Co-President Mansur Selum. In Turkey and Iran, there are both government-recognized political leaders of the Kurdish community like Selahattin DemirtaÅŸ in Turkey and terrorist groups that fight for Kurdish independence (like the PKK in Turkey and the PDKI/MEK in Iran).
