I think you're trying to describe the song "Land of a Thousand Dances" as performed by Cannibal and the Headhunters. The lead singer was Frankie "Cannibal" Garcia. The original song did not have the "na na na" section; it's reportedly the result of Garcia forgetting the actual lyrics. Wilson Picket rerecorded the song a year later, including the "na na na" part, so that's another possible answer.
