The bell now known as the liberty Bell was cast by the London (England) bell founding firm of Lester and Pack (now called the Whitechapel Bell Foundry) and arrived in Philadelphia in August 1752.

The rim cracked when it was first sounded in a test stand. It was then recast in America (two times) before its sound was deemed to be acceptable.
