Charles I and his wife Henrietta Maria of France had 7 children, with 3 sons and 3 daughters who survived infancy. Their first child, a son, died after just one day. Charles II was their second son. Charles II's younger brother succeeded his throne, becoming James the II of England and James the VII of Scotland. Their youngest brother was Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester.
