Antonia Coello Novello (born August 23, 1944) served as 14th Surgeon General of the United States from March 9, 1990 - June 30, 1993. She was the first female and first hispanic to be appointed to the office.
The first female US Attorney-General was Janet Reno.

Dunwoody was confirmed by the US Senate for promotion from Lieutenant General to General, and became the first female four-star General in the history of the US Army, and is currently the commanding General of US Army Materiel Command, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. The first female General Officer in the US Army was Anna Mae Hays, promoted on 11 June, 1970. That same year Elizabeth P. Hoisington was also promoted to General Officer. Both reached the rank of Brigadier General.
