Dictionary.com defines Varuna as: the Vedic god of natural and moral law, probably a sky god originally: thought to correspond to the Zoroastrian god Ahura Mazda.Wikipedia describes Varuna as: In Vedic religion, Varunaor Waruna (Devanagari: वरुण, IAST: varuṇa) is a god of the sky, of waters and of the celestial ocean, as well as a god of law and of the underworld. He is one of the most prominent Devas in the Rigveda, and lord of the heavens and the earth. In later Hinduism, he continued his dominion over all forms of the water element, particularly the oceans. In the Ramayana, Varuna angers Lord Rama by not heeding his entreaties to calm the ocean when he is trying to rescue Sita. Rama attacks the oceans with celestial weapons, until Varuna eventually appears to Rama and begs his forgiveness, saying that the ocean was out of his control, and suggests to Rama that he aims his weapons at a group of demons dwelling in the ocean's heart.
Eos was the goddess of dawn. She brought the sun up in the morning for her brother Helios who was the god of the sun.
The Vedic hymns are addressed to various deities or gods such as Agni (the god of fire), Indra (the god of thunder and rain), Varuna (the god of sky and water), and Surya (the sun god). Each hymn serves to praise and invoke the blessings of a specific deity for different purposes like protection, prosperity, or wisdom.
