I Corinthians in The Bible (I think its in chapter 12) tells us that Christ is the head and we as Christians make up the rest of the body. I may be a small toe nail but I have an important role. The Protestant Church is not simply one Church. There are many denominations like Lutherans, Baptists and so on. Each of these denominations has their own governing body.

As an example, within the Church of England, which broke from Rome in the 16th Century, Christ himself is declared Head of the Church, with the reigning monarch as 'Supreme governor' of the Church - currently Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The spiritual leader of the Church of England, and the spiritual leader of all Anglicans worldwide, is the Archbishop of Canterbuty, currentlt the Rt Revd Dr Rowan Williams.
