Laser printers are often used in corporate, school, and other environments that require print jobs to be completed quickly and in large quantities. I don't know for certain, but IBM used a form of dot matrix printer starting in 1949 on their Type 26 Keypunch to print the characters across the top of punchcards as they were being punched. I haven't seen any record of their use prior to this.
