A LOT of people, but the first ones were Charles Babbage (1791 to 1871) was the first to design and build a "working" computer (it was full of bugs, but he was right, years later it was finished and it worked just fine.) It was mechanical, but he had plans for one that ran on steam power.

Then there was his lady friend, Ada Lovelace (of literary fame), who was the first programmer.

And George Boole (1815 - 1864) who proposed the math that EVERY modern computer depends on.

Charles Babbage is the father of computers, granted his machine was never built until after his death but he is deemed the father of computing.

Ada Lovelace is credited as the first computer programmer.
