- Andrew Jackson - one of the most interesting characters in American history. Although I cannot say I liked some of his more deplorable actions, such as the Indian Removal Act in 1830, the way he strengthened the power of the executive branch while somehow remaining the "common man" is still studied today. And of course his fiery temperament differed greatly from any past presidents and even modern presidents. My favorite "Jacksonian myth" is his assassination attempt in 1835. It is said that after Jackson was missed twice by two bullets, he attempted to beat his would-be attacker with his cane and his aides had to physically restrain him. If anyone would like to read up on Andrew Jackson - his politics, personal life, and defining kitchen cabinet, I would recommend American Lion by Jon Meacham.

∙ 12y agoMost likely Herbert Hoover because during the great depression, President Hoover encouraged the United States citizens to believe that tomorrow would be better. Him and his wife also put in protection so nothing like the great depression would ever break out again. Such as the AAA, FDC, SS, and many more. President Hoover didn't exactly heal the great depression, but he did he did make it possible for the country to land back on it's feet.
