A:The Old Testament of the Bible consists of the Jewish scriptures and is therefore significant to Judaism, but the New Testament is not. The Islamic holy book, the Koran (or Qur'an) parallels the Bible and Islam accepts much of the material in the Bible, although without the divinity of Jesus. Other religions do not regard the Bible as significant.
Jesus was referring to the Gentiles when he talked about the other sheep. His ministry was for all people, not just the Jews.
Many of the letters of the New Testament, in addition to speaking about Jesus, likewise give instructions on Church life and policy, on right living, on relationships with others.
Jesus is referenced in the Old Testament in prophetic terms, or in other words, the Old Testament predicts his coming to earth. In addition, it has been suggested that Jesus is part of the "we" or "us" that God refers to himself as throughout the Old Testament, as if Jesus existed with God prior to his physical form. However, the Old Testament does not explicitly address this - it is merely implied. The New Testament records the actual birth of Christ, his life, and his death. Specifically, the gospels (the first four books of the New Testament) - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John - speak mainly on the life and teachings of Christ, while other books are based on his teachings, or comprised completely of his teachings.
The most significant person in Christianity is Jesus Christ because he is the savior and son of God according to Christians. God is also very important to Christians. Other significant people are Moses, Abraham, Noah, and Issac- all Christian prophets.
Jesus' teaching can be found throughout the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and James. The other books of the new testament also include teachings. Jesus' prophecies are also found throughout the new testament but are mainly in the book of Revelation. The commandments are found in the old testament.
Out of 39 books in the Old Testament Jesus quoted from 16 books. See related links. All but 9 are quoted by other New Testament writers.
The Bible is a collection of 66 "books" divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. The books of the Old Testament were all written before Jesus Christ. The New Testament books are about Jesus' birth, life, death, resurrection, and asecension; the early history of the church in the new covenant that Jesus established; and the expectation of Christ's return in glory. Other New Testament "books" are really letters written to Christians about living the life of a Christian in a God-honoring way.
According to Christian belief, the souls of the Old Testament believers were waiting in a place called Sheol until Jesus' death and resurrection. After Jesus' resurrection, it is believed that these faithful souls were brought to heaven.
Millions of Christians will say that the truth about Jesus is to be found in the gospels. On the other hand, Jews will generally say that Jesus was just a wandering preacher, while Muslims hold a somewhat confused position in which Jesus was not the son of God but somehow had divine assistance. The truth about Jesus may never be known, but the quest for the 'historical Jesus' is a significant study among New Testament scholars at the present time. There may be an approaching consensus that little or nothing that we thought we knew about Jesus is actually true.
