I heard that Lord Russell Wallace developed the same theory working in Indonesia, and was about to publish his theory before Darwin. Darwin deserves credit for the theory because he had been working on it for many years.

Does Darwin think his Theory of Evolution is still true?

Charles Darwin spent several decades formulating and confirming his Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection, and did not publish it until he was quite certain about every detail. Of course, he is no longer alive, but he died convinced of the reliability of the Theory.

Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution?

Charles Darwin was born in 1809. He sailed around the coast of South America on a ship called the Beagle for five years, he began his journey at the age of 25. While sailing he collected many different types of plants and animals on the mainland and on islands. He discovered that animals are all unique to their own island and the animals would come up to the humans because they had never met humans before. One of his most famous theories is his idea of the survival of the fittest, also called natural selection. It basically means: The unequal ability of individuals to survive and reproduce. Darwin proposed that organisms descended from common ancestors and that natural selection is the driving force for evolution. It took Darwin 25 years to publish his book about evolution. He thought that his theory took away a need for a God. Darwin's theory of evolution challenged both the Religious and the science community ideas at that time. Alfred Russel Wallace was the man who motivated Darwin to publish his book (The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection) because Wallace had come up with the same theory Darwin had and Darwin wanted to get credit for his work so he published his book before Wallace could.

Do any scientists today who are not creationists express dissent from Darwin and his views?

Such a person would have to meet three requirements: 1) Publishes articles in peer reviewed scientific journals. 2) Religious or not, he/she doesn't concern him/herself with creationism. 3) Objects to evolution. I know of people who publish scientific articles and aren't religious/creationists - but they don't object to evolution. I know of people who publish scientific articles and object to evolution (though not simultaneously) - but they are creationists. I know of people who object to evolution but are not creationists - however they don't publish. I know of no people who meet all three criteria.

What scientist suggested that organisms slowly acquired physical characteristics?

Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. Strictly speaking, Charles Darwin did not put forward the "theory of evolution". He publish a book called "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection OR The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life". The theory of evolution had been around for a long time, in fact, his grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, had proposed evolution 75 years before Charles published his book. Charles Darwin gave us the driving force for evolution - Natural Selection. There had been suggestions for evolution and evidence in fossils well before Charles Darwin. It is just that nobody could work out why until Charles.
