In the first part, fly along the screen edges to avoid the Red Baron. If he shoots at you, do not dive under him to escape, as he is dropping bombs, too.
In the second part, run across to the various structures where you can hide from the searchlights. When you leave the river, don't jump to the fence or the roof of the house. Stay down behind the fence, then on your next move you can jump up to the roof and hide behind the chimney.
