They're used to describe the four children who go out through the wall of their closet and ultimately into the magical land of Narnia. In Narnia, the lion Aslan refers to the male and female children respectively as Adam's sons and Eve's daughters. The reference is to their carrying the taint of Adam's and Eve's original disobedience of divine law.

The Bible names three sons of Eve (Abel, Cain, and Seth); Genesis 5:4 says that Adam and Eve had "{other} sons and daughters" but does not indicate how many in total. We have no idea how many she had.
