George Taylor , who was played by Charlton Heston.
Actually, Taylor, Landon (Robert Gunner), and Dodge (Jeff Burton)--the three male astronauts--survived the crash landing in the lake. Stewart (played by Diane Stanley) died in transit when her suspended animation couch failed.
Dodge is killed when shot through the neck in the first gorilla attack, and Landon is knocked unconscious. Taylor later sees Dodge's taxidermied body posed in the Ape Museum, and Landon in the plaza when he runs through the Ape Village trying to escape. Landon has been lobotomized, and as far as the audience knows, remains alive--at least until the next movie, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, when the subterranean humans detonate the Omega Bomb and destroy the planet.
