J. Edgar Hoover was one of the individuals who joined the new Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) led by Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer. Hoover eventually became the director of the FBI and served for nearly five decades, shaping the bureau's modern investigative techniques and procedures.

FBI stands for Federal Bureau Investigation.
James Comey was the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in July of 2014. He ascended to that post in September of 2013.
Technically, it was established under the direction of President Theodore Roosevelt by then Attorney General Charles Bonaparte. Bonaparte opened the Bureau of Investigation under the Justice Department on 26 July 1908. In 1909 it was merged with the Bureau of Prohibition and renamed the Division of Investigation. In 1935, under the Directorship of J. Edgar Hoover, the department was made an independent agency and renamed the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
