No army was wiped out by the Lakota in Wyoming.

Wyoming did not exist as a State at that time - it was known as the Wyoming Territory.

The Lakotas had many successful fights with small parties of US troops including the Fetterman Massacre in 1866 and the Little Bighorn battle in 1876; the first involved less than 100 soldiers, the second only the 7th Cavalry Regiment - neither was an army which would include infantry, cavalry and artillery.

The first was led by Captain Fetterman, the second by Lt-Colonel George armstrong Custer (formerly a brevet General in the Civil War).

The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as Custer's Last Stand, was a conflict where the Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne tribes defeated the US Army. In contrast, the fighting at Wounded Knee was a massacre in which the US Army killed over 200 Lakota Sioux, mainly women and children. The Battle of Little Bighorn involved a more organized Native American resistance, while Wounded Knee was a tragic example of excessive force by the US military.
