The Head of Confederate Forces was Beauregard.Major Robert Anderson was the commander of the US garrison at Fort Sumter.
The conflict that resulted in the battle over Fort Sumter ended with the fort's Union commander, Anderson, surrendering to forces led by Confederate commander Beauregard. Anderson had little choice as all relief efforts to aid the fort by Lincoln were turned back.
Since the commander of Fort Sumter surrendered to Confederate forces, it was a victory for the Confederacy. There was no chance to prevent Fort Sumter to remain in Union hands when it was running out of supplies and no reinforcements were able to reach the fort.
When Confederate forces began their bombardment of Fort Sumter, the commander of Southern forces was General PT Beauregard. The fort had no choice but to shortly surrender. The irony of this key battle was that the commander of Fort Sumter was Major Robert Anderson. While attending the USMA, West Point, Major Anderson had been one of General Beauregard's favorite instructors.
The assault on Fort Sumter in April of 1861 had several individuals that played a role in this historical event: A. Union commander Major Robert Anderson who was forced to surrender the fort to the forces of South Carolina; B. US president Lincoln who attempted to send non -weaponry aid to the fort; C. Confederate President Jefferson Davis who at first urged all caution regarding the fort; and D. Confederate general Beauregard who headed the Confederate military forces.
In the April 1861 the battle of Fort Sumter led to the Union's surrender of the fort to Confederate forces.
Robert Anderson was the commanding officer for the Union during the Battle of Fort Sumter, and P. G. T. Beauregard was the Confederate commander. The battle resulted in a victory for the Confederacy.
