Major General Burgoyne
At the Battle of Saratoga, which took place in 1777, General John Burgoyne's British forces surrendered approximately 5,800 troops. This significant defeat marked a turning point in the American Revolutionary War, as it boosted American morale and led to increased support from France. The surrender at Saratoga is often considered one of the pivotal moments in the conflict.
Battle of Saratoga
General John Burgoyne marched his troops to Saratoga, New York, during the American Revolutionary War. His campaign aimed to gain control of the Hudson River Valley, but his forces faced significant challenges, ultimately leading to their defeat at the Battles of Saratoga in September and October 1777. This defeat was a turning point in the war, as it prompted France to enter the conflict as an ally of the American colonies.
The French, led by Comte De Rochambeau.
It wasn't. But the Battle of Saratoga was. You spelled it wrong, stupid.
France decided after the British defeat at Saratoga that the Continental Army had a chance to defeat the United Kingdom and sought an alliance. They had previously provided military equipment, weapons, munitions and gunpowder to the colonists covertly. They now dedicated their Navy and 10,000 troops in support of the American Revolution.
The British were unsuccessful in splitting the land by the Hudson, the Americans start to see how powerful they are, and the colonial army becomes much stronger with the help of the French troops, who help the Americans control the British fleet at Chesapeake Bay and defeat the British led by Cornwallis at Yorktown.
It was pretty much the battles of Oriskany and Benington. These battles weakened General Burgoyne's number of troops and sapped his stock of supplies. These battles also made Burgoyne flee to Saratoga where the Continental Army led by General Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold could close in on him.
About 300 British soldiers died in the battle of Saratoga.
