I believe you have a JC Higgins model 101.1 This should be a single shot 12 ga. It was made by Savage as the Savage model 94. They were made between 1926 and 1945
Assuming you mean the Savage/Stevens 940E single-shot shotgun, about $125 in 28ga in excellent condition. sales@countrygunsmith.net
I could be wrong, but I believe it was Sears/Roebuck.
Your shot gun was made By Harrington & Richardson For J C Higgins -Sears / High standard. in 1945 http://www.histandard.info/PDF/Sears%20Shotguns.pdf
I do not have a cross reference for THAT model number, but many (not all) of the JC Higgins bolt action shotguns were made by Mossberg. Check with Havlin Sales through their website- they are my "go-to" supplier for anything with older Mossberg guns.
Made by Savage. We have parts. gunshop@nctv.com
Made for Sears by High Standard, and is a version of the Double-Nine revolver.
Not that I am aware of the gauges are typically as follows: 8ga (rare and old) 10ga 12ga 16ga 20ga 28ga What you might be trying to find is a .22 long rifle (or short) shot cartridge, commonly referred to as rat shot. These are a .22LR round that fires very small shot out of a .22 rifle.
