I was told by a Sears employee, who works in the outdoor power equipment section, that all Craftsman yard tools are manufactured by someone else. The Craftsman logo is just a brand that is placed on another companie's tool in hopes of increasing sales. He told me that Craftsman string trimmers are made by Husqvarna.

A few of the pro ar e manufactured by Poulan.

AYP, who make Husqvarna equipment, made the Craftsman 917.28990 (a sweet unit if you can get a good price).
Some are, some aren't. A lot of Husqvarna products are sold as badge engineered items, as well (Craftsman, American Yard Products, Yard Pro, WeedEater, McCulloch, etc.).
Made by the AYP division of Husqvarna Outdoor Products
Sears sells them but they are made by various manufacturers under the craftsman name, depending on the year and model.
