Montgomery Ward did not make firearms. They contracted with makers and had their store brand put on them.
I BELIEVE THE TEXAS RANGER SOLD BY MONTGOMERY WARD WAS MANUFACTURED BY J. STEVENS. IT IS BASICALLY THE SAME GUN AS A STEVENS MODEL 94. PROBABLY MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 1925 AND 1929. I HAVE ONE IN 16 GAUGE AND LOVE IT.
It's really a Stevens model 94. Hercules was a Montgomery Ward brand name. Hercules was made by Iver Johnson from 1918-1943. I have a Montgomery Ward Hercules 16 ga. double. Does anyone know who made it. There are no brand or model numbers.SN X76777
Ithaca did not make any Wards Western Field Shotguns. Most were made by Stevens/Savage or Mossberg.Western Field, the Montgomery Ward brand name, should not be confused with Western Arms Company, a division of Ithaca that made shotguns that appear identical to Ithaca's Lefever Nitro Special from 1929 to 1946.
It was made by Iver Johnson after their Champion Model for Montgomery Ward

Its actually a stevens model 94. Sold by Montgomery Ward. Look on the opposite side of the rifle and you'll see the model 94 stamp. Montgomery Ward never made any guns. They are a department store. Just like Sears doesn't make Kenmore Washer. Whirlpool does. Montgomery Ward just sold it.
Western Field was a trade name used by Montgomery Ward & Company on their firearms for many years. Guns were made for Montgomery Ward by both domestic and foreign gunmakers..........................
