The original reason for people accepting that evolution had taken place was not the work of any single person. Rather, it was the growing fossil evidence showing that past life had been much different from modern forms. So by the time that Darwin started his work on evolution, it was already a well-accepted reality (in scientific circles at least) that some sort of evolution had taken place.
J.B. Lamarck as well as others proposed various hypotheses about the driving mechanisms of this observed change, but it was Darwin's work that is recognized today as being instrumental in bringing the theory of natural selection to light.
Today, people do not believe in the theory of evolution by natural selection as a result of the work of a single person either: they accept the theory based on the overwhelming evidence supporting it, evidence compiled by many famous or nameless scientists over the course of a century of research.
Evolution can be traced back at least as far as Anaximander (610-546 BCE), who taught a belief in development and adaptation of species. These kinds of theories have been favored by believers in naturalism throughout the centuries. The modern belief began with Darwin, since Lamarck's "acquired characteristics" was disproven. Darwinism has also been altered greatly, since he didn't know of mutations. See also:
why are there humans? evolution. or, in some cases, people believe it's god who made us. do u believe it i possible that vampires have evolved from evolution 2?
In religion evolution typically means how people were created, and how they have developed and changed since they were created. Some people do not believe in evolution because it disagrees with the bible, which says God made man.
No, souls are from a religious body. There is no way to tell that souls exist or not. I believe they do but there is no way that evolution made souls.
This debate has been going on for a long time: Some people believe that we were made by a higher being, others believe that we evolved from primates. It depends on what your perspective (view) is.
Creationists do not believe in Evolution. Since they believe the bible word for word, they truly believe that Adam was made out of clay, and Eve made out of one of his ribs.
christians believe that god made the universe, life and everything! evolution says that everything happened on accident. christians believe that god made the universe, life and everything! evolution says that everything happened on accident.
God did not make evolution. Evolution is the belief that the world came about from a big bang or an explosion. The Bible clearly teaches that this world came about as a direct result in God creating it.
Everyone at the time of Darwin's discovery believed that people were created by God instead of evolution. We were supposedly perfect, but to believe that we had evolved made us look imperfect due to the evolution of the body, and other such features.
That depends on who you ask. Some even believe both are true - 'Theistic Evolution.'
Well it's called Evolution, but some people dont believe in evolution because they believe god made everything the same way it's today, they are known as Creationists, and people who believe in evolution are called Evolutionists. Today there is a huge debate between which one is correct and which one is false. I understand the last parts have nothing to do with the question but it's important information about the subject none the less.
They are marine mammals, and evolution made them that way (or God did, if you don't believe in evolution). They do not breathe underwater, so they do come up for air.
In 2008 the United Methodist Church made 3 major statements strongly in favor of Theistic Evolution. Most Methodists would identify with this position saying that evolution in and of itself does not conflict with theology. So yes, The Methodist Church does believe in evolution and is NOT considered to be fundamentalist or creationist.
