Who made the JC Higgins Model 583.3 bolt shotgun for Sears and where can you get parts?
J C Higgins 583 3 20 gauge bolt action shotgun was Made by Harrington & Richardson Arms Co. For High Standard Manufacturing who in turn supplied them to Sears and Roebuck &Co. JC. Higgins was a Sears trade Name your shotgun is the first Series of JC Higgins shotguns made 1945/46. It was based on the pre war H&R model 120 /121 these are excelent old guns some parts are available from from Numrich arms Gun Parts Corp. There are many sorces for these parts. This gun was made exclusively for Sears By High Standard .In the early fifties .High standard never sold this model by them selves as Sears owned the rights to it .The J C Higgins model 31 was a true Sears gun. From 1945 to 1962 Sears owned all of High Standards rifle and shotgun production.Parts are avaiable from Gun Parts Corp Numrich arms West Hurley NY.

Was the Sears Ted Williams model 21 12-gauge shotgun made by High Standard Firarms and is it the same as the JC Higgins model 20 shotgun?
I own that very shotgun, the model 21. I purchased a left hand safety for mine in about 1970 from a parts catalog for a High Standard that a friend had puchase. I can't tell you though if the model 20 is the same. The 21 is a variable choke slide action. I have never had a problem with it.
