320 in a pellet gun is average. there are a few that have a higher FPS, but anything that fires between 300 - 400 FPS is normal for a C02 pistol. Rifles on the other hand currently are made to fire above 1000 FPS. The Crosman 1377C fires above 600 FPS but you have to pump it 10 times and it is a single shot pistol

Nothing is wrong with your H9a. The first pump is about 15 lbs and the 8th pump is about 38lbs. It is designed this way. But it get over 400FPS (Feet Per Second) and that is fast for a pistol. Everyone says it is hard to pump.

It's OKAY to dry fire a C02 pistol but do not dry fire a spring or pump pistol or rifle. When the piston in a spring pistol compresses the air inside the chamber to fire the pellet is actually slows down as it decompresses the spring piston just before it fires the pellet out of the chamber. This slowing down Keeps the piston from slamming against the end of the chamber and ruining it. When there is no pellet in the chamber the piston has no resistance and slams against the end of the chamber. This will eventually destroy the piston and the air chamber.

They are about the same, depending on the pistol. C02 has a tendency to be a little louder on certain pistols but not much difference.

I don't know of any single pump pneumatic BB rifles. however there are single pump Pneumatic pistols like the Beeman P-2 and P-3. Basically they work the same as a multy pump pistol except they only require one pump to store enough air to fire the pellet. You may be confusing a Single pump Pneumatic, with a Single cock Springer BB rifle, that require that it only be cocked once. When they are cocked they compress a spring and piston inside the air chamber (within the rifle). When you pull the trigger the spring is released forcing stored air out of the air tube, behind the pellet, and this fires the pellet out of the barrel. Now there are PreCharged Pneumatic (PCP) air rifles but they are in a class way above BB rifles and pistols. You have to use a SCUBA tank, Special compressor or special hand pump to charge them to 2000 to 3000 PSI. Load the .22 pellet in the breech. The skirt faces the rear. Close the breech. Rotate the knob to lock it in place. Aim, release the safety and fire.

I'm going to try to answer this in two parts. 1. Montgomery Wards Pellet rifles and guns were made by Crosman corp under the Hawthorne name. 2. This is pure speculation and a best guess. I believe the m140 is the "Crosman model 140" it is a pump, single shot, 22 cal pellet rifle. It had a wooden stock with the forearm as the pump handle. there were 3 variations made, starting in 1954 ending in 1968.
