the mfgr of your ide and all the other fun stuff embedded in the bios, can easilly be determined by simply opening your controll panel and accessing the system settings. The device manager that you will find hiding in the hardware folder is also a much better tool to install system drivers than the add hardware setting, because you can see plainly if any of your drivers are not functioning correctly or are not properly installed. You can use the d.m. to either update or do a fresh install of known, common system drivers, but it will not search beyond windows update for either task. If you are not sure about any aspect of virtually any driver...there is a relatively inexpensive program out there that I have come to trust and rely on,called"Driver Genius",that once installed makes any old or new hardware install a painless(and best of all)brainless affair. It scans your system and then it finds, downloads, and installs with minimum user interaction, the newest driver available for every little and often overlooked piece of hardware in your machine. The difference in the Beasts performance can be dramatic. Have Fun!
