No, they brought out the 283ci fuel-injected V8 in 1957 and made it with it until 1961.
The first commercial Electronic Fuel Injection unit in an internal combustion engine powered car in the United States was the American Motors Corporation Rambler in 1957. With their new 327ci (5,359cc) and "Electrojector" electronic fuel injection the engine produced 288 horsepower. Just a little before that General Motors Rochester division made a mechanical fuel injection system for their 1957 Chevrolet models with the 283ci (4,637cc) engines. Fuel Injection had been used on Cummings Diesels from the 1920s onwards but those were almost exclusively used in trucks.
im not sure on the very first car but i believe it was a 1957 Chevy belair with a 283 fuel injected motor
There were 1.5 million Chevys built in 1957 and only 1,530 had the Fuel Injection option. The F.I. was a $484 option. That was allot to pay for an option on a car that cost around $2,500.
