How does one earn the Nobel literature prize?
Each year, the Swedish Academy sends out requests for nominations of candidates for the Nobel Prize in Literature. It's not permitted to nominate oneself. Those allowed to nominate candidates are: Members of the Academy, members of literature academies and societies, professors of literature and language, former Nobel literature laureates, and the presidents of writers' organizations. The Nobel Committee examine the proposals and narrow it down to a list of five candidates. After reading and reviewing the works of the five candidates, members of the Academy vote and the candidate who receives more than half of the votes is named the Nobel Laureate in Literature. No one can get the prize without being on the list at least twice.

Who decides the winners of the Nobel Prize?
Previous prize winners, representatives of national governments, academics and international judiciary can nominate. The committee's shortlist of between five and 20 candidates is evaluated by the Nobel Institutes permanent advisers, mostly Norwegian academics. The winner chosen by the Nobel committee. How the winner was nominated and selected is kept secret for 50 years.

When does the Nobel Peace Prize committee vote for the winner?
In September the Nobel Committee sends out letters requesting nominations for thefollowing year Nobel prize. All nominations must be submitted by February 1 of the following year. During the months of February and March the Nobel Committee reviews the candidates and shorten the list of nominees. Between March and August the advisory committee reviews the shortened list of candidates. In October the Nobel Committee choose the winner of the prize by a majority vote and the decision is announced. The Nobel Prize ceremony takes place in December.
